The Lord Botetourt baseball team will play three games in three days this week as the Cavaliers wrap up the regular season. This week’s play will determine where the Cavaliers stand for next week’s Conference 31 tournament.
“We could be anywhere from first to sixth,” said LB coach Todd Smith. “With all the rain, there’s still a lot of games to be played this week.”
Botetourt had a Blue Ridge District, but non-conference, game at William Byrd on Tuesday. Today the Cavs host William Fleming at LB and on Thursday Botetourt will wrap up the regular season at Staunton River. That will be a jayvee-varsity doubleheader, with the jayvees beginning at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity expected to start at around 6:30 p.m.
The Cavaliers come into the week at 9-6 after falling to Franklin County in Daleville last week, 7-3. Alex Dunn took the loss on the mound with two innings of work. Hunter Duke relieved and pitched five solid innings.
Caleb Franklin was three-for-four for LB with a double. Ty Maust and Duke had two hits each.
Next week’s tournament will be held at the higher seeds in the first round before moving to LB for the semifinals and championship.
