The Lord Botetourt softball team opened Blue Ridge District play at Staunton River last week and dropped an 11-1 decision. The Cavaliers were rained out of a Friday home game with William Byrd.
Autumn Russell blasted a solo home run for the Cavs at Staunton River to account for LB’s run. Grace Thomas and Bry Orange had one hit each.
“We made solid contact offensively but just could not get any baserunners going for us,” said LB coach Megan Cook. “Staunton River has always been a strong team offensively and defensively. Ultimately we could have done better collectively as a team.”
The loss dropped LB to 3-5 overall and the Cavaliers were scheduled to play at William Fleming on Tuesday. A busy week continues with a non-district game at Hidden Valley today and a trip to Northside for a BRD game Friday, the third away game of the week.
