The Lord Botetourt girls scored more points than Carroll County Monday, 96-92, but didn’t get them at the right times. The visiting Carroll girls won three sets by two points each for a four-set win, 25-23, 17-25, 25-23 and 25-23.
Addison Naff and Ava Stephens had nine kills each for LB and Ava had three blocks. Savanna Johnson had eight kills.
It was the second straight close loss for the Cavaliers, who fell to 3-4 on the season. Last week at home the girls lost to Liberty Christian Academy in five sets, 25-18, 21-25, 25-19, 21-25 and 15-5.
Gracelynn Clark led LB with 11 kills, three aces and four blocks. Stephens had eight kills and three blocks and Lilly Crenshaw had 20 assists, three aces and a dozen digs.
“We let our unforced errors hurt us at the wrong times,” said LB coach Samantha Wilkins. “We need to find a way to finish tight matches, but we are a young team and we are still finding what works best for us. I have no doubt that when it clicks they will be a hard team to beat.”
The Cavaliers are now off until next Tuesday, September 23, when they open their Blue Ridge District schedule at Franklin County. They’re back home on September 25 to host Staunton River and it will be “Spike Out Kids Cancer Night.” All proceeds will go to the Life Ring Foundation and there will also be a 50/50 and silent auction that will benefit a Lord Botetourt student who is currently battling cancer.
