The first football scrimmages of the summer are scheduled for this week as the fall sports season draws nearer.
The Lord Botetourt football team will scrimmage Dinwiddie High on Saturday in Dinwiddie, near Richmond. The Generals were the Group 4A state runner-up team last year, losing to Salem in a close championship game at William & Mary.
LB hosted Dinwiddie in a scrimmage last summer. The jayvees will scrimmage Dinwiddie at 3 p.m. with the varsity scheduled to go at 5 p.m.
James River will scrimmage at Rockbridge High School at 6 p.m. on Friday. The Knights will rotate scrimmages with the host Wildcats and Bath County. Coach Jacob Phillips has been pleased with the work ethic of the team thus far, and also the weather.
“The kids have been working hard and the weather is awesome,” he said. “It’s rained about every day, and it hasn’t been hot at all.”
River will host Lord Botetourt for a Benefit Game on Friday, Aug. 18, in a warm up for the season openers.
River will open at Chatham on August 25 while LB will host Harrisonburg.
