The Virginia High School League football playoffs begin this weekend and undefeated Lord Botetourt is the top seed in Region 3D. The Cavaliers will host fourth seeded Christiansburg (3-3) on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Cavalier Stadium in Daleville.
Christiansburg slipped past Bassett and Northside in the VHSL rankings to grab the fourth spot with wins over Cave Spring, 23-6, and Blacksburg, 57-0, in the final two weeks of the abbreviated six-game season, which was moved to the spring due to Covid concerns last fall. The Blue Demons’ other win was a 26-0 shutout of Hidden Valley while they lost to Salem, 35-13, Pulaski County, 28-7, and Patrick Henry, 41-21.
“They played a tough schedule,” said Lord Botetourt head coach Jamie Harless of the Demons. “They have a good football program with some good looking kids.”
The Demons run a wing-t offense and have a mobile quarterback. They run a lot of options off their base offense.
Botetourt finished the season at 6-0 after accepting a forfeit from Northside last weekend. LB was hoping to play that game on Friday night but Northside first insisted it be Saturday, then opted out entirely.
“No comment,” said Harless, who wasn’t excited about playing a football game the day before Easter.
Botetourt would have been the top seed regardless with a healthy point lead over second place Abingdon, who is 5-0. Abingdon will host third seeded Carroll County (4-1) this weekend in the other region semifinal.
