The Kerr-Cregger Fieldhouse on the campus of Roanoke College was the site of the East Coast Elite Roanoke #1 track meet in Salem last Thursday. Both Lord Botetourt and James River had athletes competing in the meet.
For LB, Karleigh Brown set the school record in the girls pole vault when she cleared 6’11.75”. Jillian Harris placed second in the 55 hurdles in 9.41 and sixth in the triple jump. Alicia Holmes placed fourth in the shot put and the 4×200 team of Morgan Smith, Ratie Jensen, Elizabeth Meadows, and Harris took seventh.
On the boys side, Triston Graves set the school record in the 55 hurdles with a time of 7.98 and qualified for states. The 4×200 team of Grant Holmes, Quinton Jones, Caleb Miller and Graves placed first overall and qualified for states with a time of 1:35.50. Jones also placed eighth in the 55m at 6.75 and Graves was seventh in the 300m. Nathan Mullins was fourth in the pole vault
In the 1,000 meters Eric Duncan placed third and Ethan Thorne was seventh. Duncan placed fourth in the 1600m and Thorne was fifth.
“Overall, it was a very good day,” said LB coach Tra Wilson. “There were also a lot of personal bests set on Saturday. I am proud of the progress and hard work these athletes have been putting in. We as a staff are very excited about the indoor season with this group.”
For James River, Navaeh VanBuren won the triple jump, was second in the long jump and ninth in the high jump. Jordyn Simmons was ninth in the long and 10th in the triple.
Kaia Binns was 10th in the 55 dash and the River 4×200 relay team also took 10th.
In the boys meet, Gavin Binns was ninth in the 55 dash and 11th in the long jump. River’s 4×200 boys team took 14th.
Lord Botetourt’s team is back at RC for an invitational on Thursday of this week.
