The Lord Botetourt softball team will play host to Christiansburg today, Wednesday, with a 5:30 p.m. start in Daleville. The Cavaliers have won three of their first four games while scoring 51 runs in the four games.

LB opened the season at home against Hidden Valley last week and took an 18-8 win. The Cavaliers had 16 total hits with Riley Shupe, Mikayla Reed and Bry Orange each collecting three hits. Hadley Evans and Autumn Russell also had a multi-hit game while Orange got the win in the circle.

On Saturday the Cavaliers played two games in the Salem Invitational at the Botetourt Sports Complex, as the James I. Moyer Center in Salem is still being renovated. Botetourt opened with an early morning loss to Blacksburg, 9-8 in eight innings. The Cavaliers out-hit Blacksburg, 11 to 10, and rallied for six runs in the sixth inning but still went down to defeat.

In their second game Saturday the Cavs beat Brookville, 11-0, in five innings. A six-run third inning highlighted a game where LB had 13 hits. Evans hit a two-run homer in the third inning.

On Monday the Cavaliers traveled to Cave Spring, always a tough place to play, and came away with a 14-3 win in six innings. Botetourt had 19 hits with Shupe and Maya Mougin leading the way in hits and runs batted in. Shupe went five-for-five and Mougin went four-for-five. Grace Thomas went the distance in the circle and earned the win.

“I am so proud of these girls and the grit, talent, passion and hard work they are showing,” said coach Megan Cook. “In just four games we have collected 59 hits and 51 runs. That is incredible! We’ve got something special this year.”
