The Lord Botetourt volleyball team played host to Christiansburg Monday in the regular season opener and picked up a win. The Cavaliers won in four sets in Daleville, 25-15, 25-13, 22-25 and 25-18.
“We had a great start to the season,” said LB coach Julie Conner. “The girls did a lot of things well, and there were things we can take away from the match and learn from. We will continue to work on becoming more consistent.”
Nora Spickard led the Cavaliers in kills with 18 and she also had 10 digs and seven aces. Julianna Stephenson had six kills and 17 digs and Claire Dozier had five kills and three blocks.
Sydney Whorley led LB in assists with 23, and she also had four kills and five aces. Libero Anna Dewease had 23 digs.
The Cavaliers were scheduled to host Auburn on Tuesday, but results were too late for publication. Botetourt is at Blacksburg on Thursday, then the Cavs return the trip to Auburn next Tuesday, Aug. 31.
James River was scheduled to open at Covington on Monday but that match was postponed until September 2, when the Cougars will come to Springwood for a doubleheader. The Knights will now open next Monday, Aug. 30, with a match at Staunton River.
