It’s Homecoming in Daleville Friday and the King and Queen might want to bring slickers. Heavy rain is expected for this Friday’s game. **This game has beenmoved a day ahead to Thursday, September 26 at 7 p.m.**
Several schools had already moved their football games from Friday to Thursday as of press time, but Lord Botetourt Athletic Director Tim Fulton had not yet made a decision. The Cavaliers have a big volleyball game at home on Thursday and Homecoming plans for Friday, so the administration did not want to move the football game if possible. As of Tuesday afternoon it was still scheduled for Friday, but you might want to check before you make the trip.
LB’s opponent Friday night is a brand new school, the Rocktown High Raptors. Harrisonburg High split into two schools and both Harrisonburg and Rocktown are Class 3 schools. Rocktown had to find some opponents in the middle of a two-year scheduling cycle and Botetourt was available when Olympic High of North Carolina dropped the Cavs after getting blown out, 57-21, last year.
LB coach Jamie Harless and the staff don’t have a lot to go on for this week’s game. Rocktown is 0-3 with losses to Hedgeville High, 36-13, Moorefield, 40-14, and last week they were trounced by Riverheads, 48-6.
“They’re a spread team and they appear to be pretty athletic,” said Harless. “They have three or four kids who could play for anyone.”
Lord Botetourt comes in at 3-1 after hammering Appomattox last Friday in Daleville, 68-10. The Cavaliers have outscored three opponents by a total score of 184-34 in their last three games.
Last Friday in Daleville, Appomattox surrendered early, trailing 21-3 after the first quarter and 48-10 at the half. Tristan Overbay scored five touchdowns for the Cavaliers on runs of nine, three, 37, 10 and 33 yards. He finished with 157 yards rushing on 10 carries.
Quinten Jones also went over the century mark with 150 yards rushing on 10 carries, and he scored three touchdowns. Oscar Ramos, normally a jayvee player, scored a fourth quarter touchdown on a 20-yard run and rushed for 78 yards on 11 carries after Harless pulled the starters early in the third quarter. The final score of the game came when Kevin Gergley scored on a 37-yard fumble recovery on his very first varsity play.
