
The Lord Botetourt boys defeated Bassett, 72-59, in a Region 3D tournament play-in game in Daleville last Friday. With the win LB advanced to the quarterfinal round in Hillsville on Tuesday night against Carroll County.
LB was the seventh-seeded team among 10, with the top six getting first round byes. Carroll County is the second seed and other Tuesday games found top-seeded Northside hosting number eight Tunstall, third-seeded Cave Spring hosting sixth-seeded Abingdon and fourth-seeded William Byrd hosting fifth-seeded Hidden Valley.
Tuesday results were too late for publication, but if Lord Botetourt won the Cavaliers would play the Cave Spring-Abingdon winner on Friday at Pulaski County High. Region semifinals are scheduled for 6 and 7:45 p.m. with the championship on Saturday at 3 p.m., also at Pulaski County High.
Last Friday in Daleville, Blake Lovern led LB in scoring with 21 points while adding five rebounds and four assists. Landon Hayes had 16 points and Carson Edwards had a double-double with a dozen points and 14 rebounds, also dishing out five assists.
“They’re all must-win games at this point so we, as a coaching staff, were proud of our effort and how we executed the game plan on Friday night,” said LB coach Josh Aliveto.
The Cavaliers were 11-13 after defeating Bassett.
