The Lord Botetourt wrestlers added another notch to their belts with a championship in the Brookville Duals at Brookville High School last weekend. The Cavaliers won all five of their dual matches.
LB opened by defeating Chatham, 59-20, and E.C. Glass, 70-10, in the preliminary round. In the championship pool they defeated LCA, 52 – 24, Chatham, 72 – 12, and Northside 52 – 30.
“Winning duals and dual meet tournaments comes down to match ups and bonus points,” said LB coach Chuck Burton. “We did a good job of limiting bonus points we gave up and picking up bonus points in our wins.”
Joseph Bierece, Hunter Miller, Gray Arnold, and Dalton Oxley all went 5-0 on the day to help pace the Cavaliers. Declan Sullivan, Trey Saunders, Canden Saunders, TJ Piluso and Andrew Gilbert went 4-1 on the day.
“The kids wrestled well and are starting to hit their stride,” said Burton.
Botetourt also wrestled at Glenvar in a dual match last week and lost 43-35 to a strong Highlander team. Both teams had full lineups and a couple swing matches went Glenvar’s way.
“That’s what wrestling was intended to be back in the day,” said Burton. “Two teams, full lineups, one on one on a weeknight. These were two evenly matched teams and it was a great dual.”
The Cavs were scheduled to wrestle at Cave Spring on Tuesday, then they’re off until January 25 for Senior Night at LB in a dual against Patrick Henry.
