The Lord Botetourt baseball team is scheduled to wrap up regular season play this week if the weather cooperates, and that’s a big “if.” The forecast at press time called for rain for most of the week.
LB was scheduled to host Northside on Tuesday of this week, followed by a trip to Franklin County on Friday. The Cavs also were scheduled to conclude a suspended game with Hidden Valley on Monday but that didn’t happen due to rain.
Botetourt comes into the week at 5-3 in the Blue Ridge District and 11-7 overall after defeating Staunton River and William Fleming on back-to-back days last Thursday and Friday. The Cavaliers won 6-3 in Moneta as Kobe Hairston pitched a complete game against Staunton River, striking out eight while allowing five hits. Noah Donaho and Emory Lonker had two hits each and Isaac Nichols drove in two runs.
On Friday the Cavaliers had no trouble with a struggling William Fleming team, downing the Colonels 20-3 in Daleville. Donaho hit a three-run homer to pace the offense, his seventh of the season. That ties him for the LB single season record with former Cavaliers Josh Holskey, Turner Phelps and Dylan Powers. Gavin Walker had a grand slam home run for LB while Jairdan Pennix, Chase Peck and Emory Lonker had two hits each.
Ethan Taylor picked up the win on the mound with three innings of two-hit ball, fanning five. Pennix struck out the side in his one inning pitched and Jackson Harless pitched the last inning and allowed no hits.
