Central Academy Middle School (CAMS) has been named a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. This prestigious honor is awarded to schools that demonstrate overall academic excellence or significant progress in closing achievement gaps among student groups.

U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona recognized 356 schools as part of the 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools cohort, praising their role in raising the bar for academic success. “The National Blue Ribbon Schools Award is a testament to the exceptional achievements of students and educators at each of these schools,” Secretary Cardona said. “These schools serve as models for effective teaching and collaboration in their communities.”

Central Academy earned this recognition in the Exemplary Achievement Gap-Closing category, underscoring its commitment to fostering both academic achievement and personal growth for all students. This award reflects the school’s dedication to maintaining high standards and effective teaching practices, and marks the second time in recent years that a Botetourt County public school has received the National Blue Ribbon honor.

Principal Jordan Pinkard expressed his gratitude, saying, “We are thrilled and honored to receive this award. It reflects the commitment of our staff, students, and families to achieving excellence in education.”

“This recognition highlights the incredible efforts of our students, educators, and community,” said Dr. Jonathan Russ, Superintendent of Botetourt County Public Schools. “Central Academy has set a standard of excellence we are all proud of.”

Representatives from Botetourt County Public Schools will attend the National Blue Ribbon Schools awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. this fall, where they will be formally recognized.
