Charles Lloyd “Charlie” Nelson, 59, of Fincastle, passed away Thursday, April 8, 2021 following a long struggle with multiple sclerosis.
Charlie was born February 25, 1962 in Johnson City, Tenn., and lived in the Roanoke Valley since 1969. He was the son of the late Frank P. Nelson Jr. and Joyce N. Wilhelm Nelson.
Charlie was a machinist for many years with Ingersoll Rand. He was a Christian and was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and his dog Barney.
Charlie is survived by his daughter, Paige Michelle Edwards of Las Vegas, Nev.; brothers: Frank P. Nelson III of Moneta, Thomas T. Nelson of Fincastle, and Lee Leon Nelson of Moneta; one nephew, Thomas Nelson Jr. of Goode; and very special caregivers: Debra Benes, Eileen Maietta, and Nancy Saunders.
A celebration of Charlie’s life will be 12 noon Friday, April 16 at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road, with Pastor David Lord officiating. Burial will be at Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
