Charles Lamar (Charlie) Downs, 79, of Buchanan, passed away Saturday, February 12, 2022 at his home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Beaulah Downs; brothers, J.E. Downs and Wesley Downs; and sister, Linda Thompson.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Cindy R. Downs of Buchanan; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Rachel Downs of Roanoke; Mark and JoAnne Rice of Buchanan; five siblings, Sue Varner of Deatsville, Ala., Polly Johnson (Donald R.), Martha Shiver, Magdalene Manning, all of Montgomery, Ala., and John Downs (Margert) of Dotham, Ala.; numerous nieces and nephews; many special friends including Carla Davis, Lori East, Geni and Doug Mullins, Sandy and Ernie Hutchins, and all the North Star Family.
Charlie was a pipe and structural welder and outside contractor for Roanoke Gas from 1994 to 2013. He owned and operated Central Welding since 1973. He was a member of Grace Bible Church in Daleville. A special thanks to Dr. Robert Glenney and the Carilion Hospice Team: Alan, Michelle, Sam, Angie, and Chelsea.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, February 17, in the Buchanan Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home with Pastors Jay Robinette and Marina Gopadze officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Marbury Cemetery, Marbury, Ala., on Saturday, February 17.
