Charlsie Jane “Janie” Peters, 67, of Roanoke, formerly of New Castle, suddenly went to be with the Lord on January 26, 2021.
Janie devoted 37 years of her life to the students, faculty, and community of Craig County working in the cafeteria. She could always be found in the stands at every sporting event for her children, grandchildren, and all of her “extra children.” She never let a child go hungry and was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand, including everything from taking kids to and from practice or putting a roof over a head if necessary.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Robert Langley Peter; her parents, Hayes and Jean Kendrick and Shirley and Charlie Murphy; her mother- and father-in-law, Jack and Margie Peters; step-sisters, Sandra Goad and Judy Bond; step-brother, Phillip Carter; and sister-in-law, Gail Kendrick.
She is survived by her children, Kristopher (Shauna) Peters, Zachary (Theresa) Peters, and Rebekah (Justin) Crawford; grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Kyle) Killen; Craig, Ashleigh, Reann, Zachary Wayne, and Khloe Peters; Justin Michael (Ashley), Jacob, Brittany, and Adam Crawford; great-grandchildren, Leya and Lexus Crawford and Kennedy and Karter Killen; three step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; and the numerous children she held close to her heart; her brothers, Butch (Carol), Terry, Bobby (Shelia) Kendrick; stepbrother, Charles Murphy Jr.; brothers-in-law, Walter (Liz) and Steve Peters; stepbrothers-in-law, Ernest Bond and William Goad; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Sherry Crowder and Nancy Fisher. along with the rest of the cafeteria ladies.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 30, at Craig County High School with Pastor Chris Kingery officiating. Interment was in Crossroads Church Cemetery. The family received visitors Friday, January 29, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Paitsel Funeral Home, www.paitselfh.com.
