The Christiansburg boys and girls swept the Blue Ridge Invitational cross country meet Saturday, hosted by Lord Botetourt and James River at the Greenfield Recreation Park in Daleville.
In the boys meet Christiansburg scored 57 points to outrun second place Lord Botetourt, who had 86. Third place Franklin County had 110 and Pulaski County was fourth at 125.
Lawson Mecom of Christiansburg was the individual winner in a time of 17:13. Daniel Zearfoss of Glenvar was second and third was Evan Gates of Lord Botetourt with a time of 17:21.35.
Cole Stelter of LB was 11th overall at 18:19.11 and Carter Hudson also made the top 15 with a 14th place finish in 18:35.89. Also scoring were Andres Hernandez in 20th and Raymond Cobb in 44th. Tristan Dodson finished 51st.
River did not have a full team with just four boys. Jacob Hill was the fastest Knight across the line in 59th place. Michael Jorgenson was 65th, Cayden Shorter was 73rd and Wyatt Race-Waller was 88th among 127 runners.
In the girls race the Blue Demons scored 67 points to win. The next three spots were close as Northside had 104, Grace Christian School had 106 and LB was fourth with 111.
Glenvar’s Carly Wilkes won the race with a time of 28:12.91, 15 seconds ahead of runner-up Violet Wall, a freshman from Jefferson Christian. Sydney Vokus led LB with a sixth place finish in a time of 20:52.64.
Karley Burks was next for the Cavaliers in 20th place at 23:44.16. Also scoring were Hatlyn Haggerty in 31st, Katie Cross in 38th and Anna Hoover in 42nd. Alexa Carillo was 49th.
River had just one runner in the girls race, Justice Race-Waller. She finished 52nd among 86 girls competing.
Elizabeth Meadows of LB won the girls jayvee race in 26:28.34. Gare Hornback was eighth in the boys jayvee race and Ethan Thorne of Read Mountain was fourth in the middle school 3,000-meter run.
Next up for both LB and James River will be the annual Metro Invitational in Blacksburg next Wednesday, October 20.
