Fincastle UMC hosting mini-drama camp
Fincastle United Methodist Church (UMC) is hosting a mini-drama camp with Ninette Cox from Attic Productions. She has been associated with Attic Productions since 1998 and has directed several of its plays.
The camp is for children ages 4 through fifth grade. It will culminate in a children’s Christmas performance at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9.
All children interested in participating are asked to come to the Fincastle UMC Family Life Center each Wednesday, beginning Oct. 17 to enjoy a free meal at 6 p.m. followed by rehearsal with Cox.

Springwood Food Pantry October 17
The Springwood Baptist Food Pantry will be open on October 17 from 10 a.m. until noon. Additionally, Feeding America Southwest Virginia’s produce delivery vehicle, the “Veggie Mobile,” will be onsite to distribute fresh fruits and vegetables to community members in need free of charge. This program is part of the food bank’s Mobile Produce Program. Stop by and take advantage of this valuable opportunity to get fresh, healthy produce.

Galatia Presbyterian hayride, cookout
Galatia Evangelical Presbyterian Church on Gala Loop Road, Eagle Rock will be having a hayride and cookout this Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Gala Campground. The hayride will begin at 4:30 p.m. and the cookout at 5:30 p.m. Hot dogs and buns will be provided. Bring a side dish, drinks, chair and a friend and come gather around the campfire.
Appalachian Vespers in Eagle Rock Oct. 21
St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Fincastle invites everyone for Appalachian Vespers on Sunday, October 21 at 4 p.m. in Eagle Rock at Emmanuel Chapel. Refreshments will be served afterwards at the Eagle Rock Firehouse.

Musicians this month is Like the Moon, a folk-rock harmony trio based in Roanoke featuring the lead vocals of Lisa Angell and original songs and instrumentals by singer-songwriters Randolph Walker and Marian McConnell. They have performed at festivals, churches and coffeehouses across Western Virginia, Floyd Country Store, and at the WVTF Public Radio studios. Their CD was released in fall 2018.
CommUNITY Revival in Fincastle
CommUNITY Revival will be held Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, October 21, 22 and 23 at Fincastle Baptist Church, 7330 Roanoke Road, Fincastle. The revival will begin at 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 21 and at 7 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, October 22 and 23.
Speakers for the event will be:
- Sunday – The Rev. Jay Robinette of Grace Bible Church, Daleville
- Monday – The Rev. David Halsey Sr. of Lapsleys Run Baptist Church, Fincastle
- Tuesday – The Vittorio Devlin of Lily of the Valley Baptist Church, Fincastle.
Music will be provided by the CommUNITY Revival choir, including members from Fincastle Baptist Church, First Baptist Church–Amsterdam, First Baptist Church–Fincastle, Lapsleys Run Baptist Church and Lily of the Valley Baptist Church.
Everyone is welcome to come out and join the congregations to show there is still UNITY in this community, even though there are evil things happening in the world today, an announcement from the churches said.
Galatia fundraiser for missionary to Spain
Galatia Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 78 Gala Loop Road, Eagle Rock, will be having its annual fall fundraiser Saturday, Nov. 3. Proceeds will benefit Ashley Thompson, Missionary Associate in Madrid, Spain. Ashley will be present at the fundraiser so you can talk with her about her missionary position in Madrid.
A barbecue dinner will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall. The meal cost is $8 and includes barbecue and bun, cole slaw, baked beans or green beans, drink and dessert. To-go meals will be available. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
At approximately 6:45, the hymn sing and cake giveaway will begin in the sanctuary. Similar to a cake walk, after each song, a cake or pie will be given away. Your meal purchase entitles you to one free cake ticket which you place on the cake of your choice. Additional cake tickets will be available for $1 a piece. All non-winning cake tickets are available to win “second chance” cakes. here will also be chances for a painting by Hazel Bowers, baskets and an overnight stay (to be determined). Come for an evening of good food and fellowship.
Cloverdale Church of the Brethren Thrift Shop
The Thrift Shop has a wonderful problem of being over stocked with sweaters– all sizes and colors for only $1. Also a great selection of fall and winter cloths for women, men, children and infants, fall and Halloween decorations, unique gifts bags you will not find anyplace else and a variety of men’s camouflage hunting gear. The shop is open each Saturday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Christmas Craft Bazaar in Cloverdale
Cloverdale Church of the Brethren, 4708 Read Mountain Road will hold its 30th Annual Christmas Bazaar Saturday, Nov. 3. 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Twenty-nine vendors will display their handmade crafts and there will be a huge bake sale. Breakfast and lunch will be served. Sign up for a free night and breakfast for two at Hotel Roanoke. No charge, just visit the bazaar and register. Drawing will be at 12 noon. You do not have to be present to win.
Bonsack Baptist Craft Expo
Bonsack Baptist Church is holding its Craft Expo on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. More than 49 vendors will have a variety of items. The Expo will be held in the new Community Life Center at 4845 Cloverdale Road, Roanoke. The public is invited.
Daleville Christmas Extravaganza November 3
Daleville Church of the Brethren is sponsoring a Christmas Extravaganza on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. The items being offered for sale are from a large collection of Christmas decorations and treasured items that belonged to one of the church members.
The sale is huge and includes items such as villages, nativity scenes, Christmas ornaments, linens, snowmen, Santas, greenery, music boxes, snow globes, wrapping paper, dishware and collectibles. There will be one prized item to raffle off. A baked goods table will also be available.
The church is located at 1540 Valley Road on the corner of Valley and Rt. 220.
Women’s Safety Seminar at New Beginnings
