The Clothes Closet at Eagle Rock United Methodist Church will be open Saturday, Nov. 3, from 9 a.m. to noon and Wednesday, Nov. 7, from 5-6:30 p.m. Free clothing will be available to men, women and children. Mt. Joy Cowbell service Saturday
Mt. Joy Church of the Brethren will hold a Cowbell service on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m. The church is at 2565 Buffalo Road, Buchanan. Everyone is welcome.
Galatia fundraiser for missionary to Spain
Galatia Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 78 Gala Loop Road, Eagle Rock, will be having its annual fall fundraiser Saturday, Nov. 3. Proceeds will benefit Ashley Thompson, Missionary Associate in Madrid, Spain. Ashley will be present at the fundraiser so you can talk with her about her missionary position in Madrid.
A barbecue dinner will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall. The meal cost is $8 and includes barbecue and bun, cole slaw, baked beans or green beans, drink and dessert. To-go meals will be available. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
At approximately 6:45, the hymn sing and cake giveaway will begin in the sanctuary. Similar to a cake walk, after each song, a cake or pie will be given away. Your meal purchase entitles you to one free cake ticket which you place on the cake of your choice. Additional cake tickets will be available for $1 a piece. All non-winning cake tickets are available to win “second chance” cakes. There will also be chances for a painting by Hazel Bowers, baskets and an overnight stay (to be determined). Come for an evening of good food and fellowship.
Lapsleys Run Baptist 150th anniversary
On Sunday, November 11, at 3 p.m., Lapsleys Run Baptist Church will observe the church’s 150th anniversary. The guest speaker for the afternoon service will be the Rev. Rodney Hubbard along with the choir and congregation from First Baptist Church – Natural Bridge.
The 11 a.m. service will be a Harvest Homecoming celebration and the speaker will be the Rev. David Halsey, Sr.
Dinner will be served following the morning service. Everyone is invited to come and spend the day.
Buchanan Baptist Homecoming Nov. 11
Buchanan Baptist will celebrate 182 years of worshiping as a church on Sunday, Nov. 11 at a Homecoming service. Everyone is invited to attend worship at 11 a.m. and the potluck meal following.
First Baptist celebrating pastor’s anniversary
First Baptist Church of Fincastle, located at 6529 Blue Ridge Turnpike, Fincastle, will celebrate the 13gh pastoral anniversary of the pastor, the Rev. Montie E. Brown Sr., on Sunday, Nov. 18 during the 11 a.m. service. Refreshments will be served directly after. Everyone is welcome.
Springwood Baptist Thanksgiving service
Springwood Baptist Church invites the public to a church service at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18, with Pastor Brian Clingenpeel and a Thanksgiving meal afterward. Bring a vegetable and dessert. There will be a joint service at 7 p.m. with Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church at Springwood Baptist on the same day. Springwood Baptist is at 88 Copps Hill Road, Buchanan.
Cloverdale Church of the Brethren Thrift Shop
The Thrift Shop has a wonderful problem of being over stocked with sweaters– all sizes and colors for only $1. Also a great selection of fall and winter cloths for women, men, children and infants, fall and Halloween decorations, unique gifts bags you will not find anyplace else and a variety of men’s camouflage hunting gear. The shop is open each Saturday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Christmas Craft Bazaar in Cloverdale
Cloverdale Church of the Brethren, 4708 Read Mountain Road will hold its 30th Annual Christmas Bazaar Saturday, Nov. 3. 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Twenty-nine vendors will display their handmade crafts and there will be a huge bake sale. Breakfast and lunch will be served. Sign up for a free night and breakfast for two at Hotel Roanoke. No charge, just visit the bazaar and register. Drawing will be at 12 noon. You do not have to be present to win.
Bonsack Baptist Craft Expo
Bonsack Baptist Church is holding its Craft Expo on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. More than 49 vendors will have a variety of items. The Expo will be held in the new Community Life Center at 4845 Cloverdale Road, Roanoke. The public is invited.
Daleville Christmas Extravaganza November 3
Daleville Church of the Brethren Christmas Extravaganza on Saturday, Nov. 3 will feature the Christmas collectibles that Sandra Sue Bolton collected over a lifetime. The collection will be on display at the church for the day.
Items for sale will include snowmen, Santas, villages, Christmas ornaments, linens, Cat’s Meow, wreaths, greenery, lights, wrapping paper and ribbons, cards, glassware and many other items.
There will be a bake sale plus hot wassail. Santa will be making an appearance from 9-9:30 a.m., 10-10:30 a.m., and 11-11:30 a.m.
Tickets also will be sold to win a Willow Tree Nativity Scene, three wise men and two angels. The drawing will be held at 2 p.m.
The extravaganza is open from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. The church is located at 1540 Valley Road on the corner of Valley and Rt. 220.
Women’s Safety Seminar at New Beginnings

Solomon’s Mission
Solomon’s Mission will have its annual Jesus Fest from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31. It will be a night of family fun, games, hot dogs, snow cones, cake walk and door prizes. All will be held in the Community Center side. Local youth groups and the James River High School football team will be volunteering for the event. Solomon’s Mission is on Lowe Street in Buchanan.
Troutville Church of the Brethren
Come join the Troutville Church of the Brethren on October 31 from 6-8 p.m. for a Trunk- or- Treat. There will be food, hot chocolate and plenty of candy for the children. The church is located at 5133 Lee Highway in Troutville, 992-1571.
