Trinity UMC hosting community cookout
Trinity United Methodist Church in Buchanan will host a Back Porch Cookout featuring hamburgers and hot dogs from the grill with all the fixins’.
Dinners will be served Saturday, Aug. 12 from 5-8 p.m. in the newly renovated fellowship hall. Dinners may also be purchased for carry out.
The $8 meal includes a drink, dessert and two side items: choose from slaw, potato salad, green beans, and macaroni salad. Proceeds from the sales will assist with ministries of the church.
The church is located at 19637 Main Street in Buchanan. To attend the Back Porch Cookout, enter through the door at the back porch on Washington Street.
Solomon’s Closet summer clearance sale
During August, clothing and shoes are on special at Solomon’s Closet– buy one bag, get one bag free. Organizers are moving out summer clothing to make room for fall items.
Eagle Rock Clothes Closet
The Clothes Closet at Eagle Rock United Methodist Church will be open Wednesday, Aug. 9, from 5-6:30 p.m. Free clothing will be available to men, women and children. The Clothes Closet is a ministry of the Eagle Rock United Methodist Charge. For more information, call Brenda Spangler, 884-2503.
Bingo at Wheatland Lutheran
The Botetourt community is invited to a game of Bingo, lunch, the opportunity to make new friends, and a chance to win some prizes at the monthly meeting of Sharing God’s Grace at Wheatland Lutheran Church. The enjoyment begins at noon on Tuesday, Aug. 15, with lunch served by the ladies of the church. Bingo follows lunch with prizes awarded to the winning cards. Fundraiser for Susan Martin at Buchanan Baptist
There will be spaghetti fundraiser to benefit Susan Martin on August 18 from 5-7 at Buchanan Baptist. Dinner includes spaghetti, salad, bread, drink, and dessert. Cost is $10, children age 3-10, $6, and children 2 and under are free. Susan is a cancer survivor. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2015 and has had multiple surgeries, treatments, and hospital stays since that time. All money raised will go to help with any expenses the family still has.
Cloverdale Thrift Shop
The Cloverdale Church of the Brethren Thrift Shop has a great selection of back-to- school clothes for only $1each, and a special on infants’ and toddlers’ clothes for only 50 cents each. The shop is open each Saturday, 9 a.m-1 p.m.
Upcoming events at Pleasant Hill
Friends of Praise will be leading worship at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church on Sunday, August 27 for Bluegrass Sunday. The public is invited for the 11 a.m. celebration of gospel hymns and songs.
Pleasant Hill Baptist will host a First Responder/Law Enforcement Sunday on September 10 at 11 a.m.
The public is invited to join the congregation in honoring local firefighters, EMS and law enforcement officers.
