In early 1923, the Roanoke Missionary and Social Union purchased three lots on the corner of Lafayette Boulevard and New York Avenue, NW. Baptists interested in starting a new church were invited to meet a committee from the Roanoke Missionary and Social Union on April 22, 1923. The meeting was held under an old apple tree with 10 people volunteering to help in starting the work of organizing a new church. In view of progress made, the new church was organized on July 22, 1923 with 51 members. The first church building was located at 1020 Lafayette Boulevard in Northwest Roanoke, with the Rev. G.H. Broyles as pastor. Over the years, a new sanctuary and an education building were added.
In 1989, the church moved into the present building in the Bonsack area of Roanoke County at 4080 Challenger Avenue. For more information, visit the website at: www.villaheights.com.
