Eagle Rock Clothes Closet

The Clothes Closet at Eagle Rock United Methodist Church will be open Wednesday, Aug. 7, from 5-6:30 p.m. Free clothing will be available to men, women and children. The Clothes Closet is a ministry of the Eagle Rock United Methodist Charge. For more information, call Brenda Spangler, 884-2503.

Galatia Evangelical Presbyterian Church

Upcoming events at Galatia Evangelical Presbyterian Church include:

  • Dig into God’s word with Thursday afternoon Bible study from 4-6 p.m. (starting August 8).
  • Bring your appetite and musical instruments (if you wish) for an evening of pizza, music, worship, and fellowship from 6-8 p.m. (starting August 8).  Everyone is welcome.
  • Do you enjoy singing? Or simply making a “joyful noise”?  Galatia EPC is forming a choir and would love to have fresh voices join in.  Email galatiaepc@gmail.com for more details.
  • Starting August 14 from 6:30-8 p.m., Galatia EPC is forming a DivorceCare group (www.divorcecare.org) to encourage and help anyone going through or healing from a divorce.  Open to anyone seeking help from divorce.

Cloverdale Church of the Brethren Thrift Shop

The Thrift Shop has name brand dresses and slacks suits for $3 each. There is a good selection of sizes and colors. The shop is open each Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Appalachian Vespers August 18 in Eagle Rock

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church will host the monthly Appalachian Vespers service at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18 at Emmanuel Chapel in Eagle Rock.  Emmanuel is located at 251 High Street. Refreshments at the Eagle Rock Firehouse are served after the service.

Appalachian Vespers is a 40-minute prayer and music service on the third Sunday of each month (March-December).  This month’s service features musicians Randolph Walker and Aspen Black. They will bring a mix of traditional gospel and original Christian songs to Appalachian Vespers. A singer/songwriter who lives in Franklin County, Aspen travels the country performing in western music venues and was a 2018 nominee for Academy of Western Artists CD of the Year and Song of the Year with her CD “Lovin’ The West,” co-produced by Randolph Walker. Dress is informal. Visitors are welcome and you need not be an Episcopalian

Donations needed for Mt. Union Cemetery

Funds are needed for the upkeep of Mt. Union Cemetery at the junction of Blacksburg and Catawba Roads. Those who wish to donate may mail checks to Mt. Union Cemetery, Bill Potter, 2813 Catawba Road, Troutville, 24175.

Summer Bazaar at Mount Olivet UMC

Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, 26310 Lee Hwy, Buchanan, will hold its Summer Bazaar on Saturday, Aug. 24, 8 a.m.-1 p.m., with breakfast and lunch, bake sale and yard sale. Space is available for $5.
Mount Olivet Quilters will have items for sale. Music will be by Eagle Mountain Band.  For information, call 540-570-3938
