Christmas sale at Cloverdale Thrift Shop
Cloverdale Church of the Brethren Thrift Store is having a Christmas sale through October gift items, jewelry, Christmas sweaters and lots of decorations. Fall and winter clothes are available for the entire family. The shop open every Saturday from 9 to 12; donations are welcomed.
Springwood Food Pantry open October 21
The Springwood Baptist Food Pantry will be open on Saturday, October 21 from 9-10:30 a.m. The pantry is located at 88 Copps Hill Road, Buchanan. This pantry is a drive-through pantry, so clients may remain in their cars and volunteers will load the food for them. The pantry is open each month on the third Saturday from 9-10:30 a.m. It is a partner with Feeding America Southwest Virginia and anyone in need of food is invited.
Family fellowship time at Troutville Brethren
Family fellowship time at Troutville Church of the Brethren begins at 5 p.m. on October 22, and includes food, fellowship, and a movie. The church is located at 5133 Lee Highway in Troutville.
Mt. Joy hosting Cowbell Service
Mt. Joy Church of the Brethren will host a Cowbell Service on Saturday, October 21, at 7 p.m. The church is located at 2565 Buffalo Road, Buchanan. Everyone is welcome.
Pork BBQ Dinner at Springwood Baptist
Springwood Baptist Church is sponsoring its annual Pork BBQ Dinner on Saturday, October 28, from 4-6 p.m. at the church, 88 Copps Hill Road, Buchanan. Each meal costs $10 and consists of two pork barbecue sandwiches, coleslaw, baked beans, and a drink. The barbecue is being prepared by Aaron’s Smokehouse. There will be an extra charge for desserts. This event will be takeout only from the church’s fellowship hall. No tickets will be pre-sold, nor are reservations being taken for meals. Dinners are available until the food is gone on a first-come, first-serve basis. The community is invited to this event. Proceeds from this dinner will be donated to the Springwood Baptist Food Pantry.
Homecoming, anniversary celebration at Lapsleys Run
Lapsleys Run Baptist Church will celebrate the annual Harvest Homecoming and 155th Church Anniversary on Sunday, November 12. Homecoming begins at 11 a.m. The church pastor, the Rev. David W. Halsey, Sr., will be the speaker for this service. Dinner will be served after the morning service.
The 155th Church Anniversary service will begin at 2 p.m. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Amy Hodge, who will be accompanied by the choir from Mt Zion A.M.E. Church of Roanoke. Everyone is welcome to these celebrations.
Regular services are held on the second and fourth Sundays of each month. Everyone is invited to attend all services at Lapsleys Run Baptist Church, 608 Zion Hill Road, Fincastle.
Flu Shot Clinic, other activities at Pleasant Hill
Pleasant Hill Baptist Church will be holding a Flu Shot Clinic on Saturday, November 4 from 8-10 a.m. Anthem, Optima, Medicare, and Cigna will be accepted. Call the church line to reserve a time, (540) 992-5556. Walk-ins are also welcome, first-come, first-served.
PHBC has started a new Discipleship Class for young men and women, ages 13-18. The classes meet Sundays at 6 p.m. in the fellowship hall. No materials or registration needed. The Young Men’s Discipleship Class has already begun and the Young Women’s Discipleship Class will begin Sunday, November 5. Join in if you are interested in a better understanding of the Bible and how to consistently live and share the gospel with others.
The PHBC Food Pantry is currently accepting donations for upcoming holiday meals such as canned/boxed potatoes, canned gravy, canned green beans, peas, carrots, yams, and other vegetables, boxed stuffing, turkey/chickens (able to freeze) and canned meat items, and dessert items. It is also accepting paper goods such as plates, napkins, utensils, cups, etc. as well as toiletry items. To drop off or have them picked up, call the church line at 540-992-5556.
St. Mark’s UMC Trunk-or-Treat
Have some Halloween fun at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church’s Trunk-or-Treat on Saturday, October 28 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. St. Mark’s UMC is located at 19 Cedar Ridge Drive in Daleville. In case of bad weather, Trunk-or-Treat will be held inside the Family Life Center. Everyone is encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes and bring a container for treats.
Daleville Baptist Fall Festival, Trunk-or-Treat
Daleville Baptist Church will host a Fall Festival & Trunk-or-Treat on October 29 from 3-5 p.m. on the church grounds, 375 Orchard Drive, Daleville. Activities will include bounce house, hayride, cake walk, face painting, games, hot dogs and candy. This is a free event for the whole family.
