Christmas in July Sale
Come stroll among the vendors, consultants and yard sale offerings at the annual Christmas in July Sale at Solomon’s Mission on July 15 from 8 a.m.-1p.m. Concessions and bake sale items will be available for breakfast and lunch. Proceeds from this sale will help fund Solomon’s Mission’s Back to School Event on July 29. Solomon’s Mission is located at 592 Lowe Street, Buchanan.
Appalachian Vespers this Sunday
St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Fincastle will host its monthly Appalachian Vespers service at Emmanuel Chapel in Eagle Rock this Sunday, July 16. That’s the small white chapel with the double red doors up on the hillside to the left of the Eagle Rock Firehouse. Come listen to beautiful music by David Austin (guitar), George Honeycutt (banjo), Greg Honeycutt (bass), and Keith Wood (mandolin). The service begins at 4 p.m., with parking available adjacent to the church. Fellowship follows in the Eagle Rock Firehouse. Everyone is welcome.
Springwood Food Pantry dates
The Springwood Baptist Food Pantry will be open on July 19 from 10 a.m. until noon.

Trinity UMC ‘coffeehouse’ worship begins
Trinity United Methodist will be hold “coffeehouse” style worship services in the fellowship hall for the month of July. The services will include music, prayers, and a special series of messages in a casual, informal setting. The services begin at 11 a.m. The church is located on Main Street, Buchanan. Andrew Chapel ice cream supper
Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church will hold its annual ice cream supper on Saturday, July 15, beginning at 5 p.m. The menu will include pork barbeque sandwiches, hot dogs, desserts and homemade ice cream. Live music will be provided by “Easy Pickin’s Band.” Proceeds benefit the church building fund. Andrew Chapel is located at 3936 Beaver Dam Road, just off Springwood Road.
Bingo at Wheatland Lutheran Church
The Botetourt community is invited to a game of Bingo, lunch, the opportunity to make new friends, and a chance to win some prizes at the monthly meeting of Sharing God’s Grace at Wheatland Lutheran Church. The enjoyment begins at noon on Tuesday, July 18, with lunch served by the ladies of the church. Bingo follows lunch with prizes awarded to the winning cards. Cloverdale Thrift Shop
The Cloverdale Church of the Brethren Thrift Shop has a great selection of young teen dresses, shorts, tops and skirts; also infants and children’s clothes. It also has a large inventory of men’s pants and shirts, all sizes, and women’s tops and shoes. The shop is open each Saturday, 9 a.m-1 p.m.
Food, music at PleasantDale July 22
PleasantDale Church of the Brethren will have a hot dog/ice cream supper from 4:30-6:30 Saturday, July 22. The cost is $8 for adults and $6 for children for hot dog, baked beans, potato salad, dessert and a drink ($2 for an extra hot dog). Gospel music will be presented by The White Family from 6:30-8:30 p.m. All are invited.
First Baptist ‘Family, Friends Day’
The First Baptist Church of Fincastle will have its annual “Family and Friends Day” on Sunday, July 30, at 11 a.m. Minister Marilyn Brown, Associate Minister at Main Street Baptist Church, Clifton Forge, will bring God’s message. The Glorylanders from the New River Valley will render the music. Dinner will follow the service. The dress attire is casual. All are welcome. The church is located at 6529 Blue Ridge Turnpike; the Rev. Montie E. Brown Sr. is pastor.
Horseshoe tournament benefits Lily of the Valley
The annual horseshoes tournament to benefit Lily of the Valley Baptist Church will be held Saturday, Aug/t 5, beginning at noon, at the home of Josephine Thompson in Fincastle. Hot dogs, hamburgers, fish, desserts, water and other drinks will be available. Bring your own chairs. Trophies will be given for first, second and third places. Everyone is welcome.
