Quirin becoming pastor at Mill Creek Baptist
The Rev. Danny Quirin, associate pastor of Bonsack Baptist Church and on its staff for 23 years, will become pastor of Mill Creek Baptist Church near Buchanan April 1. While at the Bonsack church, Quirin has worked especially with youth, children and in community ministry. Senior pastor Dr. Chris Cadenhead wrote in the church newsletter that, while the associate pastor position will not be filled, his wife, Heather, is volunteering her services in working with youth; she has experience from a period when the couple lived in Texas.
The historic Mill Creek Church has been without a permanent pastor for two years.
Back Porch Coffeehouse welcomes ‘Friends of Praise’
The Back Porch Coffeehouse is pleased to welcome the bluegrass gospel band “Friends of Praise,” an all gospel singing group from Troutville. The band has been around for about 20 years using blends of bluegrass and country arrangements of both old and new gospel songs. They perform at local nursing homes, churches and most anywhere else they are asked.
Current members are Bob Edwards (guitar/harmonica/vocals), Kevin Edwards (banjo), Jake Robertson (bass fiddle/vocals), Edna Robertson (vocalist), Paul Crawford (fiddle/mandolin), Rebecca Evans (harmony vocals), Dale Spickard (vocalist) and Buddy Crowder (guitar/vocals).
The music at the Back Porch Coffeehouse will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 16.
The “Friends of Praise” are donating their time and talents to the Backpack Buddies ministry of Trinity United Methodist. An offering will be received during the performance. Admission, coffee and popcorn are free. Other refreshment choices on the menu are available for a small charge.

Gospel music Saturday at Crossroads Baptist

Barn dance to raise funds for Addy Grace Playground
Bonsack Baptist Church is hosting a Family Barn Dance to benefit the Addy Grace Foundation All-Abilities Playground from 6-9 p.m. on Saturday, March 16. Tickets are $6 per person or $30 for a family. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for food, with dancing beginning at 6 p.m. Items will be auctioned, along with a fun Children’s Easter Basket raffle. All are invited to the evening of family fun while helping to bring a long-overdue, all-accessible playground for people of all abilities to the area.
Springwood Food Pantry dates
The Springwood Baptist Food Pantry will be open on March 20 from 10 a.m. until noon. Additionally, Feeding America Southwest Virginia’s produce delivery vehicle, the “Veggie Mobile,” will be onsite to distribute fresh fruits and vegetables to community members in need free of charge. This program is part of the food bank’s Mobile Produce Program. Stop by and take advantage of this valuable opportunity to get fresh, healthy produce.

Cloverdale Church of the Brethren Thrift Shop
The Cloverdale Church of the Brethren Thrift Shop is having a March special. Men’s and women’s fall and winter jackets and vests are only $1 each; men’s and women’s sweaters, 50 cents each; men’s and women’s slacks, 50 cents each; and children’s and infants’ clothes, 50 cents each. The shop accepts donations Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., and is open each Saturday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Children’s Mission Month at Pleasant Hill
Pleasant Hill Baptist Church invites the public to March Children’s Mission Month. Each Sunday in March will feature a guest ministry spokesperson to present a brief summary of their mission work in this area.

Cedar Bluff spaghetti dinner March 30
Cedar Bluff Baptist Church will have a spaghetti dinner on Saturday, March 30 from 5-7 p.m. as an ongoing fundraiser to build a picnic shelter on the church grounds.
Tickets can be bought ahead or at the door for $8. This pays for spaghetti, salad, garlic bread and drink. Dessert will cost $1.00 extra. Contact Sandy Petty at 254-1891 for tickets or more information.
Springwood Baptist Note Burning Service
Springwood Baptist will have a Note Burning Service on March 31, with lunch to follow the service. Fried chicken will be provided by the church and members are asked to supply side dishes and desserts. All are invited.
Fincastle UMC Wednesday services for Lent
Fincastle United Methodist Church will hold five weekly Wednesday Lenten Services and Lunch beginning on March 13 in the Family Life Center, 137 South Church Street, Fincastle. These 20 minute services begin at 12:05 p.m. and will be led by area pastors. A home-cooked lunch will follow each service. The service and meal are designed to last about one hour. Child care will be provided. Takeout meals will be available. The schedule for this year’s services is:

Buchanan Area Ministerial Association (BAMA) Lenten services
The Buchanan area churches invite the public to attend ecumenical worship services during the season of Lent leading up to Easter Sunday morning. The services begin with worship followed by the Word being preached. Each service that begins at 12 noon will conclude with a free light lunch in that church’s fellowship hall. The services held at 7 p.m. will have a time of fellowship and refreshments. All are welcome to each service. Any questions, call 580-6810.

FUMC chicken barbecue April 6
Fincastle United Methodist Church is sponsoring a chicken barbecue on Saturday, April 6. It will be held at the VFW Hall, 4902 Roanoke Road, from 4-7 p.m. The menu is half a barbecued chicken with Percy Bolton’s special sauce, homemade potato salad, baked apples, roll and a drink.
