Knights of Columbus’ fish fry next Friday
The Knights of Columbus will have a fish fry from 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 31 at the Church of the Transfiguration, 7624 Roanoke Road, Fincastle. Eat in or take out for $9; children 7 and under eat free. The dinner includes fried flounder, chicken nuggets for children, homemade cole slaw, sweet cornbread, fries and dessert. Buchanan Area Ministerial Association Lenten Services
The Buchanan Area Ministerial Association invites and encourages you to attend the Lenten services at the following places, times with a list of the pastors who are preaching. Come just as you are. Lenten services at Fincastle UMC
Fincastle United Methodist Church will hold five weekly Wednesday Lenten services and lunch beginning on March 8, in the Family Life Center, 137 S. Church Street. These short 20-minute services begin at 12:05 p.m. and will be led by area pastors. A home-cooked lunch will follow each service. The service and meal are designed to last about one hour. Childcare will be provided. Takeout meals will be available.
The schedule for this year’s services is:
• March 22 – The Rev. Patrick Starkey, Cloverdale Church of the Brethren, Cloverdale; Lunch – Chili Beans, Cornbread, Baked Potatoes, Salad, Dessert
• March 29 – The Rev. Fr. Steven McNally, Church of the Transfiguration, Fincastle; Lunch – Chef Salad, Gelatin Salad, Bread, Dessert
• April 5 – The Rev. Kathleen Overby Webster, District Superintendent, Roanoke District, United Methodist Church; Lunch – Ham Biscuits, Potato Salad, Pea Salad, Fruit Salad, Deviled Eggs, Dessert
The lunch menus are subject to change. If Botetourt County Public Schools are closed because of inclement weather, the service will be canceled.
Everyone is invited to attend these services during the season of Lent.
Hymn sing at New Beginnings
New Beginnings Assembly of God will have a hymn sing at 6:30 p.m. March 26. The church is on Narrow Passage Road just outside of Buchanan. Everyone is invited.
Blood drive April 1 at Pleasant Hill

Movie night at Buchanan Theatre
Pleasant Hill Baptist Church will host a community movie night at the Buchanan Theatre on Sunday, April 2.
The movie will be “The Resurrection of Gavin Stone” about a washed-up former child star forced to do community service at a local megachurch. He pretends to be a Christian to land the part of Jesus in the annual passion play, only to discover that the most important role of his life is far from Hollywood.
The movie starts at 6 p.m. and tickets are $3 each. No reservations are needed. There will be a door prize drawing at the end of the movie.
Pleasant Hill hosting ‘Worship with Anthony Evans’
Pleasant Hill Baptist Church will host “Priscilla Shirer Simulcast/Worship with Anthony Evans” on Saturday, April 8. Registration begins at 9 a.m. with the event running from 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided. Seating is limited so register early by emailing phbcweb@gmail.com or by calling the church line at 992-5556. The day will include door prizes, exhibits, photo booth and more. There is no charge for this event, but be sure to register as soon as possible.
Health Fair at Mill Creek Baptist
Mill Creek Baptist Community Health Fair will be held Saturday, April 8 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. Visitors can drop in to meet the vendors, get a massage, eat lunch and listen to music by Mike Lee’s students.
Vendors will include massage therapy, home health, hospice, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living, home care services, PACE Program and other health care resources.
