The Class 3 state swim meet has been moved to this Sunday, February 22, at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center. The meet was originally scheduled for Friday but moved to Sunday, along with the Class 4 meet, with an anticipated snowstorm expected to cause travel problems during the week.
Lord Botetourt will send a group of swimmers to the meet after competing in the Region 3D meet in Christiansburg last week. The meet was moved back a couple days due to snow.
“What a wonderful swim meet,” said coach Ashley Safrit. “I know there was chaos getting to this point, but it all worked out in the end. We had some amazing swims and all of the coaches are very proud of the work put in to achieve these results.”
The LB girls finished fifth among nine teams in the meet as Cave Spring won the region championship. The Christiansburg boys won the region crown with LB finishing eighth.
Max Mizuba took two firsts for the LB boys team. He set a new school record in the 50 Free with a time of 22.57 and won the 100 Backstroke in 54.01, advancing to the state meet in both events.
For the girls, the 400 Free Relay team of Julia Misicko, Annalise Buyalos, Olivia Nicely and Hannah Mizuba took third with a state qualifying time of 3:53.11. The 200 IM team also qualified for state with a fourth place finish in 1:58.90. That consisted of Mizuba, Anna Harris, Misicko and Nicely. The 200 Free Relay team of Buyalos, Callie Shuler, Ella Shuler and Nicely was sixth.
Individually, Mizuba was third in the 50 Free and fourth in the 100 Back, state qualifying in both events. Misicko also state qualified in two events with a third in the 100 Fly and a fourth in the 500 Free with a personal best. Nicely qualified for the state with a personal best fourth in the 100 Free and Anna Harris scored points for LB with a personal best 100 Breast, finishing sixth.
Sunday’s state meet in Christiansburg is scheduled to have diving in the morning and swim events in the afternoon.
