Seventh graders from Botetourt County Public Schools traveled to the Salem Civic Center last week for the inaugural Career Quest, a two-day event that allowed students the opportunity to interact with local businesses and participate in hands-on experiences that allowed them the opportunity to learn more about potential career options.
“The Career Quest event allowed students to be exposed to a variety of business and industry careers available in the greater Roanoke region. The students were able to interact with professionals through hands-on experiences related to many different career paths. It was a wonderful event and the students had a great time learning about the different opportunities in our area,” Mike Ketron, supervisor for CTE and adult education for the division, said.
Between September 18 and 19, an estimated 5,000 students the Roanoke Valley, New River Valley, Alleghany Highlands, and Lynchburg participated in the event, which was hosted by Virginia Career Works.
