The cross country course at the Greenfield Recreation Center in Daleville will be the site of the annual Blue Ridge Invitational this Saturday. Lord Botetourt is a host of the event and James River will also have selected runners in the field.
The meet will begin at 12:30 p.m. with a girls middle school two-mile race, followed by a boys two-mile middle school race at 1 p.m. The varsity girls will follow at 1:30 p.m., with the boys scheduled to take the gun at 2:10 p.m. A girls jayvee race is at 2:45 p.m. and the boys jayvees will close out the day at 3:30 p.m.
Schools scheduled to attend include Altavista Combined School, Bassett, Battlefield, Ben Franklin Middle School, Blacksburg, Glenvar, Northside, Patrick Henry, Pulaski County, Radford, Rockbridge, Salem, Skyline, LB and River.
The Cavaliers competed in the Alleghany Invitational at the Jackson Sports Complex in Covington last Saturday. The boys were second in the varsity race and the girls were third.
Christiansburg won the boys race and Cedric Drennen of host Alleghany had the best time at 16:35. LB’s best time was by Maxwell Klimczak, who was seventh at 17:29. Also scoring for LB were Connor Hayes (11th), Bryson Cook (12th), Benny Ford (13th) and Cameron Turney (24th).
Salem won the girls team title, followed by Christiansburg and LB. Maddie Yancey of Christiansburg had the best time at 20:51, and LB’s best was Sofia Hernandez, who took fourth in 21:32. Also scoring for LB were Claire Seibel in 10th, Brielle Jackson in 15th, Brooklyn Hornback in 16th and Lauren Duff in 21st.
Botetourt’s Sydney Vokus came in second in the girls middle school race and Halla Roberts was seventh in the jayvee race. Nikhil Hajra of LB was eighth in the boys jayvee race.
“We are so proud of how the team performed,” said coach Robert Sullivan. “So many season best and personal best. The weather was cooler and it was perfect conditions for running. We are working hard to finish the season strong. We still have a lot of work to do but they are very determined to have a successful season.”
