Robert and Melissa Cummings of Eagle Rock participated in a ‘Pioneer Trek’ reenactment recently. As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, the Cummings attend the Botetourt Branch or Congregation. Other Congregations within the Church also participated in the Pioneer Trek.
They were one of nine couples who volunteered to be “Ma and Pa.” There were nine or more youth assigned to be the “children” per family. There were 100 youth and 20 adults participating in the trek. They gathered together in Craig County at noon on a Thursday and completed the trek on Saturday. They walked a total of 17 miles during this time.
The Cummings work with the Youth Program of the Church, which encompasses youth ages 12 thru 18. Typically, every four years, the Church participates in the Pioneer reenactment. Youth ages 14 to 18 participate.
