The Botetourt County Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, honored the upcoming 75th anniversary of the Battle of Normandy. Nineteen young men from Bedford, now known as The Bedford Boys, died in that campaign, the highest percentage loss for any community in the United States. On May 18, DAR members and their guests met at the beautifully restored Liberty Station Restaurant, the old train station from which The Bedford Boys departed and through which they returned from war. After a meeting and lunch at Olde Liberty Station, the group toured the D-Day Memorial. This photo shows some of the group members at the Memorial’s arch.
