Maurice Tremayne Davenport, 51, of Cove Road, Roanoke, died Sunday, November 26, 2023 in Roanoke.
He was born May 18, 1972 in Clifton Forge to Marie Annette Davenport and the late Anthony Jerome Eggleston. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Roanoke. Maurice was an outstanding basketball player for James River High School.
He is survived by his mother, Marie Annette Davenport of Roanoke; a daughter, Tiara Davenport of Las Vegas; a stepdaughter, Michele Thornton of Richmond; a son, Maurice Tremayne Davenport, Jr., of Las Vegas; his girlfriend, Kia Hughes of Roanoke; a sister, Rebecca Richmond of Lexington; two uncles, Curtis Davenport of Gala and the Rev. Kevin Williamson, III of Maryland; one sister; one brother; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The funeral service was held on Tuesday, December 5, at 11 a.m. at Rising Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Gala, with the Rev. Clay Dawson officiating. Interment was in Rising Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends an hour prior to the service. Nicely Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
