Dianne Joyce Dooley Lee, 81, of Fincastle, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

Dianne was born in Roanoke September 15, 1940 and lived in Botetourt all of her life.  She was the daughter of the late Tommie and Nell Prater Dooley.

Dianne was a real “spitfire” with a quick wit and delightful sense of humor. She was a homemaker, caregiver, and babysitter. All the kids in the neighborhood called her “Mom.” Dianne enjoyed canning, gardening, sewing, cooking, and baking delicious pies. She enjoyed playing the piano and singing, working crossword puzzles and word-searches, and enjoyed TV Westerns. Dianne was a faithful member of Daleville Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack “Donnie” Lee and is survived by daughters, Pam (Bill) Downie of Fincastle, Chrystal (Kyle) Bean of Roanoke, Teresa (Susan) Durrer-Lee of Roanoke; grandchildren, Meagan Downie Price, William Christopher Downie, and Olivia Reagan Bean; great-grandson, Carter William Ray Price; her sister, Ellen Sue (Richard) Slocum of Washington; nephew, Kevin (Joy) Slocum; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; special friends, Johnnie and Melvin Corbett; and fur baby, Max.

A celebration of Dianne’s life will be 2 p.m. Friday, September 9 at Daleville Baptist Church, 375 Orchard Drive, Daleville with the Rev. Wesley Belcher officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Dale Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road, Daleville.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Roanoke Rescue Mission, 402 4th Street, SE, Roanoke, 24013; or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 8th Avenue, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
