May 8, 1938 – June 11, 2022
Doris Ellen Dudley, 84, of Buchanan, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 11, 2022, from Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Buchanan on May 8, 1938, daughter of the late Clem Preston and Leatie Goodwin Dudley. In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Levi Dudley; son, Earl Dudley; and 10 siblings.
Doris was no stranger to hard work. Following her husband’s passing in 1975, she became a single mom to three boys whom she proudly raised and maintained a roof over their heads and food in their bellies. Her heart was as pure as honey and would absolutely give you her last dime if she knew you were in need. Above everything in this world, her love for her boys was always above it all, and her grandchildren were certainly the apples of her eye.
Family remaining to cherish her memory includes her sons, Norman Dudley and wife, Ange, and Charlie Dudley and special friend, Cynthia Mullins; special sister, Janie Deacon and husband, Kenton; granddaughters, Crissie Dudley, Samantha Jo Matherly, and Chelsea Thomas; grandson, Norman Dudley, Jr.; 10 great-grandchildren; loving dog, “Smoke”; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 15, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Botetourt Funeral Home in Buchanan. Funeral services to honor Doris’s life will be conducted on Thursday, June 16, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Chaplain Rodger Linkenhoker will officiate. Burial will follow in Rapps Mill Church Cemetery, in Lexington. Online condolences may be expressed to the Dudley family by visiting www.botetourtfuneralhome.com.
