Does your water come from a well, spring, or cistern? Do you want to learn more about the quality of your water?
The Virginia Cooperative Extension invites Botetourt residents to pick up a household water testing kit Monday, August 7, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Botetourt Extension Office at 9 West Main Street in Fincastle. Alternative arrangements can be made to pick up a kit if anyone is unavailable to stop by during pick-up hours. The cost of the test is $60 per kit.
Water testing will study the levels of: iron, sodium, fluoride, coliform bacteria, manganese, copper, pH, E. coli bacteria, sulfate, nitrate, total dissolved solids, lead, hardness, and arsenic.
The following Wednesday morning, August 9, water samples are to be dropped off at the Extension Office from 7:30 a.m. until 9 a.m.
Results and water system care and maintenance information will be sent September 23 to each participant either by email or mail and a pre-recorded or live video presentation or personal phone conversation will be made available to help explain the summary results and recommendations to address problems.
Pre-register to reserve a kit by July 31 because space is limited. For further information, contact Sherrye Fleshman at the Botetourt Cooperative Extension Office at 540-928-3210 or sherrye@vt.edu.
