Dabney S. Lancaster Community College is hosting several Virginia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A) and (CDL-B) courses this fall, with the classroom portion held on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., August through December.
In-person class sessions are available at two locations: the DSLCC main campus in Clifton Forge on August 14, September 11, October 9, November 13, and December 11, and at the DSLCC Rockbridge Regional Center in Buena Vista on August 21, September 18, October 16, November 20, and December 18.
The CDL Class A coursework includes eight hours of in-person classroom lecture, 32 hours of one-on-one behind-the-wheel range and road training, a self-paced online course on tractor-trailer operations, and a three-hour DMV skills practical exam.
The CDL Class B coursework includes eight hours of in-person classroom lecture, 13 hours of one-on-one behind-the-wheel range and road training, a self-paced online course, and a three-hour DMV skills practical exam.
Class A and Class B skills tests are available at one of three remote CDL skills testing locations in Lewisburg, W.Va.; Roanoke; or Abingdon.

Students can now take their Virginia DMV commercial learner’s permit tests in McCarthy Hall, Room 504, on the DSLCC main campus in Clifton Forge, with sets testing dates available on August 4, August 18, September 1, September 15, September 29, October 6, October 20, November 3, November 17, December 1, and December 15. A student with a valid Virginia driver’s license or commercial driver’s license can register for a test event at https://vadmvexam.com/AT_Remote/ApplicantPortal/ApplicantPortal.aspx.
