The Eagle Rock Ruritan Club welcomed providers of senior services to those over 50 years of age for the first Senior Services Focus Day in Botetourt County on Friday, Sept. 16. The Botetourt County Sheriff’s Department, the Local Office on Aging and the many providers present all worked together to make for a day of fellowship and learning, as well as a meal.
Sheriff Matt Ward announced that the next Senior Services Day will be held at Fincastle Baptist Church on November 18. The program for the November event will feature ways that seniors might be more aware of and avoid scams.
Retired Judge Bo Trumbo will be the guest speaker at the October 18 meeting of the Ruritan Club. He will be discussing the preservation of nature and past history in historic Botetourt County.
Club members were informed of the location and the dedication of the Norvel Lee Historical Road Marker near Gala. The Eagle Rock Library provided a reception for those attending the dedication as well as busing attendees to and from the marker location.
Club members are making preparations to place flags on veterans’ graves in honor of the observance of Veterans Day November 11. Club member Penny Neil announced that again this year she will be providing a meal for veterans and their families at her office at MKB Realtors in Daleville on November 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
As a part of the upkeep of the Community Center, improvements have been made to the handicap access to the building. The addition of a new accessible restroom and other minor repairs and upgrades are also in the works for the near future.
