Anthony J. Eggleston, age 66, of 703 Mound Street, Clifton Forge, died Saturday, August 29, 2020 at his residence.

He was born September 8, 1953 in Clifton Forge. He attended James River High School where he excelled in both basketball and football. He had a tremendous love for the game of basketball. He also loved driving tractor-trailers, which he drove for 30 years and was a retired truck driver for Columbia Gas. He enjoyed listening to rock and roll music.

In addition to his parents, Colesta and Mary Merchant Eggleston, he was preceded in death by his biological mother, Catherine Spinner Webb.

He is survived by a daughter and two sons, Maurice Davenport of Roanoke and Anthony Eggleston, Jr.; two sisters, Katie Spinner and Cyrill Webb; a brother, Roy Webb of Clifton Forge; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a host of nieces and nephews; and his special friends, Melvin Christian, Lloyd Mack, and Curtis “Railroad” Davenport, as well as many other close friends. The family would like to give a special “thank you” to Nancy Mack for her care.

In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with the Rev. David Halsey officiating. Interment of cremains will be made in Rising Mt. Zion Cemetery, Botetourt County. The family will receive friends on Saturday afternoon from 1 p.m. until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home. To send condolences to the family online, visit www.nicelyfuneralhome.com.
