The Lord Botetourt boys and girls both finished 18th among over 30 schools represented in the Virginia High School League Class 3 state track meet last weekend. The meet was held at the Roanoke College Kerr-Cregger Indoor Fieldhouse on Friday and Saturday.
In the boys competition Western Albemarle was the team winner with 84 points while LB tied Cave Spring for 18th with 11 points. Jeremiah Emmons-Mayo had a big day for LB with a state runner-up medal in the 55-meter hurdles. Jeremiah ran a time of 8.15 to set a new Cavalier indoor school record, finishing second in the state to Ryan Fore of Rustburg at 8.09. Emmons-Mayo was also 10th in the Triple Jump with a leap of 38-01.75.
Savion Moon of LB also won a medal with a sixth place finish in the 55 Hurdles. He ran 8.32 for his personal best. Bryson Cook took 12th in the 500 at 1:12.65.
In the girls meet Christiansburg was the team winner with 62.5 points while LB tied York and Spotswood with 11 points each.
Brooklyn Hornback of LB took fourth in the 500-meter run after a runner-up performance in the Region 3D meet a week prior, also at Roanoke College. Her time in the state of 1:21.85 topped her previous best and earned Brooklyn an All-State medal.
Hornback also ran on the sixth place 4×800 meter relay to earn a second All-State medal. She was joined by Brielle Jackson, Lauren Duff and Sofia Hernandez as the foursome ran a time of 10:34.57.
Jackson earned an individual medal in the 1000-meter run, finishing sixth. She ran a personal best at the state meet with a time of 3:16.79.
Hernandez was 10th in the 1000 meter run with a time of 3:28.04 and Duff was 18th in the 500 at 1:27.03. The girls 4×400 relay team of Duff, Anna Hoover, Jackson and Hornback took 13th overall at 4:34.09.
In the field events, Haley Saunders was 16th in the high jump, clearing 4’8.”
