There were still a few hours left before the deadline for candidates to file to be on the ballot in the November town elections.
All three incorporated towns in Botetourt had at least one candidate for mayor— all three are electing mayors this fall and all three candidates are already serving in that capacity.
David Horton is running for another term as mayor of Troutville, Mary Bess Smith is running again for mayor of Fincastle and Craig Bryant, who was appointed to fill Larry Hall’s unexpired term, will be standing in his first election for mayor of Buchanan.
Town of Troutville voters had four candidates file for the three Town Council seats that will be up for election. All four have experience on council, and three of them are current council members. They are H. John Cook Jr., Patricia M. Shaver and Spurgeon O. Vaughan Jr. Granville E. Grant is the former council member who has qualified to be on the ballot.
Incumbents James “Jamie” Manspile and Jane H. Kneisley have filed for re-election to Buchanan Town Council. They will be joined on the ballot by Christopher B. Witt, John Mays, Brenda Noszek, Diane DiPalma and Joe DiPalma. All four Town Council seats are up for election. Longtime incumbent Della Hylton said earlier that she will not seek re-election.
Incumbents George W. Sydnor Jr. and Ed Bordett have filed for re-election to Fincastle Town Council. Paige W. Ware has also filed to be on the ballot. Three council seats are up for election in November.
Individuals had until 7 p.m. Tuesday (after press deadline) to file to be on the ballot.
