Gallery Spring Jewelry Show Saturday
Gallery By The James in Buchanan is holding its Spring Jewelry Show– “Get Your ‘Bling’ On”– This Saturday, April 22 from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
The show will feature new guest jewelry artists as well as work by regular cooperative members.
Gallery By The James is a cooperative art gallery formed in 2003 and is located at 19827 Main Street in a restored 1880 building that is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Mike Lee’s students recital Sunday
Mike Lee’s students’ Annual Spring Recital is Sunday, April 23 at The D. Geraldine Lawson Performing Arts Theater, also known as Attic Productions Theatre. Shows are a 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Special guest speaker will be Robynn Jaymes. A mission group from Mill Creek Baptist will have food for sale.
The recital will begin with the teen and adult group. Teens and adults performing are Madison Elliott, Kaylene Elliott, Barb Bryant, Devon Wood, Jacob Holdren, Hannah Davis, Payton Taylor, Andrew Newcomb, Jacob VanNess and Allison Dudley; back, Bailey Marshall, Brian Murray, Wyatt Smith, Phil Elliott, Laura Elliott, Leisha Cook, Daniel Holter, Charlotte Ivy, Remington Parr, Mitchell Fritz; on the caboose, instructor Mike Lee.
Ages 6 to 12 in the recital are Eli Whitley, Grayson Hatter, Jacob Simmons, Addie Bankert, James Simmons, Owen Breeden and Bella Simmons; back, instructor Mike Lee, Michael Jorgensen, Kaeli Berry, Sawyer Mullins, Brice Branscom, Zoey Taylor, Jacob Broughman and Emmy Smith.
Bellacino’s supports Relay For Life
On May 8, Bellacino’s of Daleville and team “Mark Out Cancer” will host a benefit for the Relay For Life of Botetourt. Ten percent of the day’s sales will be donated to the local Relay. Team members will be helping with service from 5 until 8. “Please support Bellacino’s as they help us fight back against cancer,” a team member said.

County Chorus Spring Concert April 30
The Botetourt County Chorus will present its spring concert, “’50s Fling,” Sunday, April 30 at 3 p.m. at Peace Presbyterian Church, 5646 Cloverdale Road, (Alt. 220), Roanoke.
The songs will include “Your Cheatin’ Heart,” “Love Letters in the Sand,” “The Wayward Wind” and several of Elvis’s songs.
Also, there will be a display of some ’50s memorabilia and a 1955 Chevy. Bring your camera and have your picture made with the car. A love offering will be received. For more information, contact Faye at 798-8142.
Movie at the libraries
The Botetourt County Libraries will show the film “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” in April.
This spin-off of the Harry Potter franchise jumps back in time to explore the wizarding world of 1926. An author studying fantastic beasts arrives in New York City and gets caught up in a larger conflict when some of the creatures in his care are accidentally released.The movie is rated PG-13 and is not intended for young children. The film runs for 133 minutes.
Remaining show times are: Wednesday, April 19 at 4 – Fincastle’ and Thursday, April 20 at 4 – Buchanan. All movies are free and snacks will be provided.
Buchanan Dates To Remember
• Garden Vendors Wanted – The Town of Buchanan is accepting garden vendor applications for the third annual Buchanan Garden Festival scheduled for Saturday, May 13. Applications are available online at www.townofbuchanan.com or from the Buchanan Town Hall. If you have “garden-themed” items including plants, flowers, outdoor living, handmade crafts, antiques or art with a flower or garden theme, this event offers an opportunity to display and sell those items. Succulent plants program April 26
Donna Haley, Master Gardening Volunteer, will be at the Buchanan Library on April 26 at 10 a.m. with a program on succulent plants.
Donna will explain how this low-maintenance, drought-tolerant plant can be used as a houseplant and outdoors in the landscape. The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Buchanan Library. The library is located at 19795 Main Street, Buchanan.
Buchanan Library book sale, yard sale
The Friends of the Buchanan Library will be holding two fundraising events April 27 to 29. In the basement of the Buchanan Library, the Friends will hold their 3-2-1 Used Book Sale. On Thursday April 27, 3-7 p.m., all of the books and media material will be $3 per bag; on Friday, April 28, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., $2 per bag; and on Saturday, April 29, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., $1 per bag.
At the same time, in the Meeting Room of the Buchanan Library, there will be an indoor yard dale. The yard sale includes household items, glassware, Avon collectibles, holiday decorations and more. The dates and times are the same as the 3-2-1 Used Book Sale.
All proceeds will benefit the Friends of the Buchanan Library. The Buchanan Library is located at 19795 Main Street, Buchanan.
Deedie Kagey to speak at the Blue Ridge Library
The Blue Ridge Friends of the Library is sponsoring a presentation by Deedie Kagey on Monday, May 1 at 7 p.m. in the library meeting room.
She will be speaking about her book “Bonsack to Blue Ridge.” The book tells the story of the Bonsack/Blue Ridge area from 1740 to 2016. People and places, old and new are documented in the book. Church histories, farms, tomato canneries, historic homes and businesses are covered.
She will have copies of the book for sale and light refreshments will be served.
May movie at the libraries
Botetourt County libraries will show the film “Sing” in May.
A koala impresario stages a gala singing competition in order to save his theater, and the contest attracts the attention of such musically inclined animals as a harried pig mom, a teenage gorilla, a shy elephant and a punk porcupine. The movie is rated PG and runs for 108 minutes.
Show times are: Saturday, May 6 at 10 a.m., – Eagle Rock; Wednesday, May 17 at 4 p.m. – Fincastle; Thursday, May 18 at 4 p.m. – Buchanan; and Thursday, May 25 at 4 p.m. – Blue Ridge.
All movies are free and snacks will be provided.
