Eagle Rock Library yard sale

Eagle Rock Library is holding a yard sale on Saturday, Aug. 26 from 7 a.m.-1 p.m.
The library is accepting donations for the yard sale and if anyone would like to donate, call 928-2800.
All proceeds from the event will help support the Friends of the Library and future programming in Eagle Rock.
Buchanan Friends of Library yard sale Aug. 24-26
The Friends of the Buchanan Library are be holding a yard sale at the Buchanan Library on Aug. 24 (3-7 p.m.), Aug. 25 (9 a.m.-5 p.m.), and Aug. 26 (9 a.m.-1 p.m.). There are hundred of household items, vintage collectibles, seasonal decorations, and a variety of many other treasures. The sale will be held in the basement of the library, with an entrance from Lowe Street or the library. Proceeds from the yard sale will benefit the programs and purchasing of library materials for the Buchanan Library. The library is located at 19795 Main Street, 928-3005.

- Buchanan Tri – Run, Ride & River Race – Experience the James River as you’ve never seen it before as you run, ride and paddle your way through this multi-sport adventure in Botetourt County on Saturday, Sept. 9. The run portion of the race is approximately 2 miles from start to finish on the Buchanan Town Park, then bike through the countryside approximately 14 miles to the Springwood boat launch where you will begin the final 5-mile journey of the race paddling the James River back to the Buchanan Town Park finish line. - Pork by the James Seriously Smoking Barbecue Competition – Buchanan’s Pork by the James Seriously Smokin’ Barbeque Competition is the evening of the Buchanan Tri, Saturday, Sept. 9 from 5-9 p.m. on the Town Park. Visitors are invited to enjoy the barbecue competition that will also feature the Amateur Barbeque Cook Off where you get to cast your vote for the “People’s Choice Award.” There will be a beer garden and a live performance by Groova Scape. Eagle Rock Fire & Rescue chicken BBQ September 16
A barbecue chicken dinner will be held at the Eagle Rock Fire House from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16. Proceeds will go to the Eagle Rock Volunteer Fire Department, Eagle Rock Rescue Squad and Ladies Auxiliary.
Tickets for adults are $8 for half a chicken, two vegetables, bread and drink; $5 for children under 12. Desserts are extra. Take-outs and deliveries will be available.

Author speaking August 29 at Blue Ridge Library
There will be a book talk at the Blue Ridge Library on August 29 featuring Dr. Gene Conti. Dr. Conti’s book is a novel entitled “Satan’s Gambit.” The talk will begin at 7 p.m. and copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.
The subtitle of “Satan’s Gambit” is “Battle Lines Are Drawn” and it is the first book in a trilogy. Book two will also be available for purchase. The novel is set on an imaginary college campus and covers a range of topics from radical jihadist terrorism to total government control and exposes a new dystopian Orwellian future.
Dr. Conti is a semi-retired emergency room medicine doctor. He resides with his wife Barbara in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Light refreshments will be served at the event courtesy of the Friends of the Blue Ridge Library. Part of the proceeds from the sale of books will benefit the library.
