What’s in your water? Did you know that private water supplies like wells and springs are unregulated? It is the responsibility of the homeowner to regularly test water quality, maintain the water system, and address any problems.
Affordable, confidential water testing and education will be offered through Virginia Cooperative Extension Office in Botetourt County in three easy steps (see below). Samples will be analyzed for 14 parameters, including bacteria, metals, nitrate and hardness at a cost of $60. Results and water system care and maintenance information will be shared at an information and results meeting. All information is kept strictly confidential and results are reported only to the homeowner.
Step one— Monday, May 13, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., pick up the reserved kit and pay the $60 fee (check or cash) at the Botetourt Extension Office, 9 W. Main Street in Fincastle
Step two – Wednesday, May 15, 7-9 a.m., drop off sample bottles at the Extension Office
Step three – Wednesday, June 19, 6 p.m., attend the results and information meeting at the Fincastle Community Center behind the Extension Office
