Final weekend of ‘Kiss Me, Kate’ at Attic Productions

At the wedding of Bianca and Lucentio, Kate surprises the guests during Attic Productions’ summer musical “Kiss Me, Kate.” From left are cast members Katie Simmons, Seth Spickard, Joe Kavenaugh, Georgia Weiman, Dave Boyer, Wyatt Ewell, David Fisher, Wanda Shackelford, Ben Sherman, Emma Boyer, Sarah Coleman, Marsha Campbell, Greg Spickard, and in back, Bob Casey. “Kiss Me, Kate” wraps up its run this weekend at the Geraldine Lawson Center for Performing Arts in Fincastle. The popular “Kiss Me, Kate,” with Cole Porter’s music and Same and Bella Spewack’s play-within-a- play, includes a large cast of local actors and musicians. Shows continue Thursdays-Saturdays, August 10, 11 and 12 with evening curtains at 7:30 and a Saturday matinee at 2:30 p.m.  In the play, the offstage events and relationships both mirror and complicate the on-stage performances. The original music and lyrics are by Cole Porter and the play is based on a book by the Spewacks that is based on Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew.” Katerina Yancey is directing, Richard Whitley is music director and choreographer is Kirsten Hamann. Partial funding is provided by the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. Attic Productions is located at 7490 Roanoke Road (Route 220), Fincastle. Reservations are strongly suggested by calling  473-1001.Volunteer hours at the box office are Mondays and Wednesdays 3-7 p.m., and Saturdays 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Leave a message at other times. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for 18 and under and groups of 10 or more.
