Fincastle Town Council unanimously approved a use by special exception for a ground-floor residency located at 5 South Roanoke Street owned by Aaron and Virginia Barkett during their monthly meeting in Fincastle last Thursday.
The building’s been vacant for the last three years, according to town planner Scott Critzer. While evaluating the property, the planning commission found that this property lends itself to “flowing” back and forth from residential to commercial use, without rezoning, due to its layout.
Two weeks ago, the town planning commission recommended approval with the condition that the property has a five-year review of the property to determine if the market has changed and if there would be a future opportunity for changes to the property’s classification.
This Thursday, Fincastle Town Council will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. in the Fincastle Firehouse regarding the rezoning for a new Heritage Family Market across from the Church of the Transfiguration and Attic Productions on Roanoke Road. The land is currently owned by Santillane, LLC. The application is to rezone from A1 agriculture to B2 business with a special exception for reduced lot size, and with possible proffers. Information related to the rezoning can be obtained by contacting the Fincastle Town Office, located in Bank Square, by visiting the office or calling 540-473-2200.
