Fincastle United Methodist Church began a Blessing Box ministry last June to benefit the community. It has been very well received during the time of COVID-19. The Blessing Box is located on Academy Street next to the church’s Family Life Center.
The idea behind a blessing box is to make needed supplies available on an emergency basis. “Blessing Box” means that those who leave items are blessed enough to be able to do so, and those who take items are blessed that the items are there to take. The box contains non-perishable food items, some paper products and personal care items. “Take what you need, leave what you can” is the motto for the box.
Church members are monitoring the box and supplying it once a day, but anyone can leave items in the box. Donations can be placed in the box or left in the Family Life Center on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
Monetary donations are also accepted by sending a check to Fincastle United Methodist Church with Blessing Box in the memo box. The address for the church is P.O. Box 63, Fincastle, 24090. Even though this is a project begun by the church, community participation is welcomed.
