On Saturday, April 12, Fincastle volunteer firefighters spent the day working alongside parents, students, and staff of Breckinridge Elementary to give the school grounds a spring refresh. The department joined the school community to pull weeds, refresh the landscaping along the front of the school, paint the front doors, brighten the swing set, and spread fresh mulch to improve the school’s outdoor learning space.
These dedicated volunteers brought both hard work and community spirit. After the work was done, the firefighters made sure there was plenty of fun – giving students a tour of the fire truck, sharing pizza, and playing a few games of basketball with the kids.
The group extends a special thank you to Domino’s Pizza for keeping everyone fed, to The Landscape Store for its generous community support, and to Principal Wyatt Turner, School Counselor Ashley Albright, and the Breckinridge Elementary PTA for partnering with the department to make this event a success.
Efforts like this reflect the commitment of Fincastle Volunteer Fire Department members to serve wherever they are needed, whether answering emergency calls or lending a hand in projects that strengthen the community.
