Botetourt County’s Chief of Fire & EMS Jason Ferguson, in conjunction with volunteer fire and EMS chiefs, announced yesterday that the fire and EMS stations throughout the county are closed to the public, except for emergencies.
In a memo released yesterday to both county staff and volunteers, Chief Ferguson advised that fire and EMS stations should refrain from providing station tours, holding general public visits, and
hosting any outside training or events not tied to fundamental operations. This is in response to the increased potential for the spread of COVID-19, or coronavirus.
“It is imperative that we posture in a manner that puts protective measures in place for our first responders,” said Ferguson. “A pandemic such as this could cause significant challenges in having
an adequate number of responders available if COVID-19 were introduced to or spread through a fire and EMS station.”
Anyone in need of emergency assistance, should call 911.
