Eight boys and three girls from Lord Botetourt High School competed in the Class 3 state track meet at Liberty University last week. The boys finished 23rd and the girls were 29th as the Tabb boys and Heritage girls won state championships.
The boys had three athletes place in the top eight, earning points and all-state recognition. Savion Moon had the best finish with a fifth in the 110 hurdles at 16.02 and teammate Jeremiah Emmons-Mayo was seventh in that event at 16.28. Both also participated in the 300 hurdles with Emmons-Mayo 13th and Moon 15th, and Dylan Knick of LB was 17th.
The other place winner for LB was Jake McNutt, who took eighth in the discus at 134’ 9”. Bryson Cook was 12th in the 800 and the boys’ 4×100 relay team was 14th.
For the girls, Sofia Hernandez medaled with an eighth place finish in the 1,600, finishing with a time of 5:32.5. She was also 16th in the 800.
Lauren Duff and Brooklyn Hornback were 12th and 13th in the 400, while LB’s 4×800 relay team was ninth and the 4×400 team was 11th.
