Frances “Fran” Dooley McCune, 85, formerly of Troutville, passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at Universal Health Care of King in King, N.C., following a period of failing health.
Fran was born in Troutville on December 13, 1935 and lived in Winston-Salem, N.C., most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Robert Price and Una Martin Dooley. As a child she was a member of Daleville Church of the Brethren.
Fran was very proud to be a Registered Nurse and worked in Labor and Delivery at Community General Hospital in Thomasville, N.C., for 20 years. She was a member of Canaan United Methodist Church and had a real love of singing. She began singing in the church choir at her Daleville church and continued at each church that she belonged. Fran enjoyed travel, and later water aerobics. Mostly though, she enjoyed caring for the grandchildren and great-grandchildren in her family. \
In addition to her parents, Fran was preceded in death by her daughter, Janet Rogers; brothers: David Dooley and Robert Dooley Jr.; and her sister, Bessie Price.
She is survived by her son, Randy McCune of Roanoke; daughters, Susan (Giovanni) Looz of Charlotte, N.C., and Dawn McCune of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Andra McCune of Winston-Salem, and Dylan Looz of Charlotte; great-grandchildren, Emelyn Graham and Nora Gullett; brother, Daniel (Monica) Dooley of Henry, Va.; sisters: Elaine (Jim) Hiner of Cloverdale, and Iris Dacal-teijeiro of Salem.
A graveside service was held at 2:45 p.m. Sunday, August 8 at Pleasant Dale Memorial Park, 3732 Breckinridge Mill Road, Fincastle. Pastors Tom and Naomi Powers officiated. The family received friends at Rader Funeral Home on Sunday from 1-2 p.m.
